Our Vision

About Our Founder

Francesca Daniele is the founder of The Legacy Community School, a private school that prioritizes nurturing the unique genius of each child through a personalized learning program comprised of project-based learning, mastery and practical application of skills, service to others, and a whole-student approach.

With a background in public education as a teacher, department head, and administrator, Francesca has spent her career channeling her passion for students and their families to create meaningful learning experiences and spaces where students are valued and their diverse strengths and interests are harnessed to make learning relevant for them. With certifications in English, Special Education, Remedial Reading, Adult Education, and Educational Leadership, Francesca advocated to ensure that education was accessible and meaningful for all students.

After personally experiencing the shortfalls of a one size fits all educational program and witnessing them in her advocacy for her students, she was determined to build something different. The Legacy Community School is the product of Francesca's belief that all children deserve an exceptional education that supports them in becoming future ready for college and career, as well as for becoming thoughtful global citizens and empathetic humans. The Legacy Community School provides a safe and welcoming environment for students that cultivates not only academic growth, but creativity, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning.

Reimagining Education and Empowering Future Leaders

Embracing and nurturing the unique genius of every student through learning experiences that are individualized, project-based, relevant, and service-driven.

Our Pillars of Education

Authentic Learning Experiences

At TLCS, we believe that students learn best through authentic learning experiences. Learning how to do something in theory is one thing, but learning how to transfer that knowledge by applying it in authentic experiences is another. Rather than memorizing content and practicing skills in isolation, our learners thrive when given chances to master knowledge and skills through frequent use in realistic scenarios. Our learning experiences are designed to clearly identify how the skills are relevant to students' lives and why they are learning them. Students are able to walk away from TLCS confident that they can transfer and apply the skills they learned to the world and their lives beyond TLCS.

A Whole-Student Approach

In any environment, humans thrive when they are viewed as a whole person rather than simply an employee or student. Whether at work or in school, when all of the needs of a person are recognized and addressed, they flourish. Learners do not simply need to be taught, they need to be valued and heard. At TLCS, we believe that education is much more than academics; all of our programs center around the whole child, prioritizing students’ academic, social, emotional, and civic development. Students who attend one of TLCS’s programs are not viewed as mere students, but as unique humans who need to be seen and heard and who need to feel that they are valued and that they belong. Our goal is to ensure that every single child who walks through our doors is future ready for whatever path they journey down in their life, and that they have developed all of the soft skills that they will need to navigate life successfully.

Individualized Learning and Discovery of Each Student’s Unique Genius

Genius resides within every single individual; too often it goes untapped and unnoticed because it does not adhere to what is expected. Through individualized programming at TLCS, the genius of each student is honored and a path that supports the development of their unique abilities and interests is followed, allowing them to flourish. Once a student is accepted into TLCS, a unique program is built just for them, and it is revised and amended as the student grows as a student and as a person. Each individualized educational program also ensures that students get the supports that they need to be successful at TLCS.

Mastery-Based Learning

Learning cannot accurately be measured with a letter. To truly understand a student’s learning, their mastery of skills and subject matter must instead be assessed. When a person can successfully apply a skill in a variety of situations, they have demonstrated that they have truly learned that skill. At TLCS, we believe that every individual learns differently and at a different pace, so approaching assessment through mastery rather than letter grades allows every individual the space and flexibility to learn in the way that is best for them.

Innovation and Creativity

The ability to creatively solve problems is high in demand in all areas of life, from school to career. This skill is honed when learners are given the chance to embrace the discomfort of not knowing the answer and then given the freedom and support to create innovative approaches to develop understanding and solutions. The more a person is able to dream of what has never been, the more they will be able to problem-solve throughout their lives, which is why at TLCS, we strive to create an environment that supports intellectual risk-taking and creative problem-solving.

Curiosity and Joy

Children’s famously favorite question is “why,” a question that once repeated often enough, frequently evokes annoyance or even frustration from the person being asked. The curiosity and joy of a child is slowly dimmed as they grow older and have fewer opportunities to freely explore the world around them and the topics they love. At TLCS, learners are given the freedom to embrace their inner child and to approach learning with curiosity and wonder. At TLCS, learning through projects, experiences, real-world applications, and service ensures that learning becomes something joyful and wonder-filled rather than something to be dreaded.
